What it is and how it works
Oral rehydration is limited by gastric emptying and intestinal absorption. Fluid you drink takes hours to reach circulation, and vomiting removes the route entirely. An IV puts an isotonic solution — normal saline or lactated Ringer's — straight into the bloodstream over 30–60 minutes, with essentially complete bioavailability.

What a session is like

- Placement (2 min): a small catheter, usually in the forearm or the back of the hand.
- Infusion (30–60 min): a liter runs at a comfortable rate. You will feel cool fluid at the site and often a warm flush from magnesium.
