Rush IV Therapy Aftercare: What to Do After Your Boston Drip

Published August 4, 2026·IV Therapy, Boston, Hydration

The drip is the easy part. What you do in the six hours after a rush IV decides whether you feel great tomorrow or right back where you started. Here is our nurses' aftercare guidance for same-day IV therapy in Boston.

The first hour

  • Leave the wrap or bandage on for 15–30 minutes, then take it off and let the site breathe.
  • Light pressure if there is any oozing; a small bruise is normal and fades in a few days.
  • Eat something with protein and a little salt — it helps you hold on to the fluids.
  • Avoid heavy lifting or a hard workout with that arm.

The rest of the day

  • Keep drinking water. An IV restores what you lost; it does not cover the next 12 hours.
  • Go easy on alcohol and caffeine — both pull fluid back out.
  • Expect more bathroom trips. Normal, and a sign your kidneys are doing their job.
  • Sleep. Hydration plus rest is what actually resets you.

When to call us

Reach out if you notice spreading redness, warmth, swelling or pain at the IV site, a fever, or lightheadedness that does not settle. These are uncommon, and we would always rather hear from you early.

What to expect next time — and who it's for

Repeat visits are quicker because your intake is on file: a vitals check, a nurse consult, then straight to the drip. Regular rush IVs suit people with recurring dehydration — frequent travelers, endurance athletes, hospitality and event workers, and anyone recovering from a rough weekend. If that is you every few weeks, a membership is cheaper than paying per visit.
